Dear New Members,
About a year ago, Rebecca and I joined Mission of the Atonement with 12 others. So, this is the last week we are the “new members”.
On behalf of the new “old members” – welcome!
There are many wonderful reasons that you are joining this community of believers - to nurture those encounters with God, to live out your faith working for peace and justice, and to pray for one another.
And just because you want to belong, it won’t always be easy.
I think that is why one of the most common phrases in scriptures is “do not be afraid”. I know, easier said that done.
Rebecca and I also wanted to belong. And I found the key for me was to call people by their name. We don’t wear nametags, so you may have to ask our names--more than once. In fact at MotA, it is accepted to ask someone what their name is--seven times. If you forget how many times you have asked, then just start over.
“I have called you by name, you are mine. . . For I am the Lord your God.”
Welcome, and my name is Jon (with no “h”)
