Reflection on John Chapter 10 vs. 33-38
“It’s not for any ‘good works’ that we are stoning you,” the Temple authorities replied, “but for blaspheming. You’re human, yet you make yourself out to be God.”
“Isn’t it written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’
So the law uses the word ‘gods’ of those to whom the word of God was addressed--and scripture can’t be broken.
Yet you say--to someone who Abba God has consecrated and sent into the world--
‘You’re blaspheming,’ because I say, ‘I am God’s Only Begotten.’
If I am not doing God’s work, then there is no need to believe me;
but if I am doing God’s work— even if you don’t believe me—at least believe in the work I do.
Then you’ll know for certain that Abba God is in me and I am in Abba God.”
“You are ‘gods’, Wow, no ducking this one. It comes from Abba God to Jesus to all of us. So this means that all of us are ‘God’, regardless of gender (I would add all species and all matter/energy) it is hard to type that. It sure sounds like blasphemy. However, we believe everything comes from God. No dualism: like some folks make it and some don’t. This goes for the whole earth and the Universe(s). It is Inclusive and excludes no one and nothing.
In a MOTA men’s group I attend we discuss this idea often. It is still difficult for me to hear or accept. How can this be, I ask myself, someone who is so not perfect, is selfish, has addictions and a large and negative ego?
The answer for me is that God can see through all of our “stuff” and sees that part of us which is God, untouched by missteps. The way I think about it Everything and Everyone is created by God and made of God’s essence which is Love. Therefore we are Love and we are all attempting to know that Love. It is a spiritual need. And one of the primary ways to know God’s Love is relating to one another.
But I am often in pursuit of something else, that I have decided is a better option and this is the source of my discontent.
